NapBook - A Student's Dream Laptop Case

In class and getting tired? Put away your laptop and pull out your NapBook for a comfortable couple of minutes of shuteye.

The idea is pretty simple: turning something you already use into a multi-functional product! The NapBook is a laptop case that makes napping in public a little more comfortable - but the magic doesn't even stop there. Not only is there more cushion to keep your laptop safer from damage, but your head also acts as your own personal security! Unfortunately this cool product is only available in an Apple store in Iceland, but the inventor is working to get it mass produced as soon as possible.

Would you use this product? I know I would!

Bear with me through finals week!

With all my tests and this horrible weather, this week is going to be pretty hectic.

I won't be posting until next week, where I will begin only posting Monday, Wednesday and Friday. School's about to be out and I'd like to take some time to enjoy that, so I'm cutting back. Don't worry, these cut backs are only coming in quanitity form, not quality; you'll still be getting the great napping information you've always been gettng.

To my fellow students, use the power of napping to help you push through your finals. And remember: short and sweet is a sleeping treat; long and late won't make you feel great.

Nap Cap & Strap!

Nap Cap and Nap Strap

Other than making you look crazy, The Nap Cap and The Nap Strap seem pretty convenient. Both adjust for size, equipped with two flexible elastic bands that help position your head and provide support. The bands are also Velcro, making it easy for both permanent installation and on the go trips. The packages also come with a removable eye-shade and noise reducing foam ear plugs.

That seems like the perfect package deal! Unfortunately they're a little over-priced; both run for about $100 on head-sup.com. Here are the thinks just in case you make want to invest: Cap | Strap

So, how do you feel about these products; convenient and necessary or too much?

Napping Alarm Clock

The Napper College Alarm clock is here, affordable and changing the napping game forever. While this can also be used as a regular clock and alarm, the Napper specializes in setting alarms for naps. One can be set by simply pressing one of that top buttons that read 15, 30 or 60. If you want something in between or longer, like 45 minutes or two hours, all you have to do is hit a combination of buttons or hit one button more than once. The regular alarm and napping alarm also work on two different systems, so you can continue to set napping alarms without disrupting your daily wake up time. Like I said before, it's also affordable. You can get it for $14.99 at dormco.com, where they give you the option of adding two different kinds of shelves!

I know that the hassle of setting an alarm keeps me from precious napping minutes, so this may have to be something I invest in. How do you all feel?

That's Church!

Virginia Montanez, the brains behind That's Church, came and spoke to our class this past Wednesday. She gave us really good advice about blog writing and even helped us individually.

She said what I had was interesting but agreed that I should stop if I lost my passion. She also said earlier that if you're thinking about giving up on your blog to sleep on it before making any final decisions. I took that advice seriously and realized why I lost interest in my subject.

Whenever something becomes to hard I tend to just give up. Blogging has always been something I've done for fun and not as an assignment. I never had to keep up with it daily. I didn't have to worry when my schedule got busy because I knew it didn't matter if I didn't blog for a couple of days. Keeping up with this blog and my other work became too hard, so I tricked myself into thinking I just didn't like napping anymore. In reality.. how could I not love napping?

Long story short, I am pleased to inform you that I am back in business 100%! I really want to thank Virginia for all her advice. She also mentioned me on her blog, which is really cool!

If you love Pittsburgh, visit That's Church for some really cool stuff.

So my fellow Americans, if JFK took napping seriously, shouldn't you too?

Look familiar? John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of The United States, had his own daily napping rituals.

He would start with a mid-morning swim, followed that with lunch in bed and then settled down for a nap. He would then nap for 1-2 hours and asked not to be disturbed unless it was an emergency. His wife Jackie would always join him, dropping any task and leaving guests to be attended to by her assistant. JB West, who was head of the household staff at the time of JFK's presidency, said, "During those hours the Kennedy doors were closed. No telephone calls were allowed, no folders sent up, no interruptions from the staff. Nobody went upstairs, for any reason." JFK and his wife were even the voice of reason that lead Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson to start napping as well.

So my fellow Americans, if JFK took napping seriously, shouldn't you too?

5 Reasons Why You Should Nap Everyday

Michael Hyatt is Chairman of Thomas Nelson Publishers, the largest Christian publishing company in the world and the seventh largest trade book publishing company in the U.S. Straight from his personal blog, here are five reason why you should nap every day:

1. A nap restores alertness. The National Sleep Foundation recommends a short nap of 20–30 minutes “for improved alertness and performance without leaving you feeling groggy or interfering with nighttime sleep.”
2. A nap prevents burnout. We were not meant to race without rest. Doing so leads to stress, frustration, and burnout. Taking a nap is like a system reboot. It relieves stress and gives you a fresh start.
3. A nap heightens sensory perception. According to Dr. Sandra C. Mednick, author of Take a Nap, Change Your Life, napping can restore the sensitivity of sight, hearing, and taste. Napping also improves your creativity by relaxing your mind and allowing new associations to form in it.
4. Reduces the risk of heart disease. Those who nap at least three times a week are 37 percent less likely to die of heart disease. Working men are 64 percent less likely! It’s true, according to a 2007 study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine. Dimitrios Trichopoulos, of the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, who led the study said, “Taking a nap could turn out to be an important weapon in the fight against coronary mortality.”
5. Makes you more productive. A 2002 Harvard University study demonstrated a 30-minute nap boosted the performance of workers, returning their productivity to beginning-of-the-day levels.

Words of wisdom from Winston Churchill

You must sleep some time between lunch and dinner, and no half-way measures. Take off your clothes and get into bed. That’s what I always do. Don’t think you will be doing less work because you sleep during the day. That’s a foolish notion held by people who have no imagination. You will be able to accomplish more. You get two days in one-well, at least one and a half, I’m sure. When the war started, I had to sleep during the day because that was the only way I could cope with my responsibilities.

NAP - What does it stand for?

You've got to be careful when you throw a short word around, especially when you fail to include context clues. I'm sure no one can misunderstand the point of this blog, but you never know! So I found some things on google that use the NAP acronym... which have nothing to do with actual napping.

1. www.nap.org - Nebraska Aids Project

2. www.nap.edu - The National Academies Press

3. www.newarcheryproducts.com - New Archery Products

4. www.nap.com - North American Palladium

5. www. parliamentarians.org - National Association Parliamentarians

I don't know why I thought this was so interesting. The tricks of the internet: typing in www.nap.com and getting a website that has nothing to do with napping!

Breaking News - Cat kills easter bunny then naps!

Hope the Easter Bunny brings you all sorts of candy and a well needed nap (without killing it, of course).

The Nap Map

The University of California at Davis has triggered a very unique campaign that encourages napping.

The research, gathered  from the National College Health Assessment and a 9-question assessment called the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Indexis a little contradicting when it comes to the overall goal of their campaign because of "non" and "long" nappers. It showed that either people reported not napping at all or napping too long and feeling more groggy and drowsy. They didn't let that trump their idea though; they still continue promoting napping as a way to increase productivity and have aimed to promote short, and napping all together, to the two skewed groups mentioned before.

Part of their campaign is The Nap Map, an interactive section of Google maps that list the best places to nap on campus.  The picture below, located on the left hand-side of this website, gives some background info, tips and even explanations on the rankings!

Then finally, you have the actual map. Clicking on each red bed will pull up the location and information about it.

I just thought this was pretty cool! I would love to see it implemented locally or even here at UPG.
What do you think?

Even the best television show includes napping!

P.S - Happy Birthday to my Momma <3
